When is the next Provincetown International Film Festival?

PIFF is held each year in June. The 28th Provincetown International Film Festival is June 10-14, 2026.

How do I submit a film?

All submissions must be made through FilmFreeway.

When are the submission deadlines?

Early deadline – November 7, 2025
Regular deadline – December 12, 2025
Late deadline – January 16, 2026
Extended deadline – February 13, 2026

Submission prices vary for each deadline.

Do you offer waivers?

We regretfully cannot waive fees. The Provincetown Film Society is a not-for-profit organization and the submission fees help cover seasonal staff, prepare the program, and assist with filmmakers’ attendance and hospitality. Exceptions may be made for alumni of PIFF. If you have had a film show previously in PIFF, please email [email protected] for more information.

What film categories do you accept submissions for?

What are your definitions of feature and short films?

We use Academy standards for length. Films over 40 minutes are considered a feature and films 40 minutes and under are considered short films.

What awards are films eligible for at PIFF?

All accepted films are eligible for the Audience Awards presented to Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary Feature.

Juried Award categories include:
• John Schlesinger Awards (presented to a first-time narrative and documentary feature filmmaker)
• Best Narrative Short Film (Academy Award® Qualifying)
• Best Documentary Short Film (Academy Award® Qualifying)
• Best Queer Short Film (Academy Award® Qualifying)
• Best Animated Short Film 
• Best New England Short Film
Honorable Mentions bestowed at the discretion of PIFF jury.

Narrative, Documentary, and Queer shorts categories are Academy Award®qualifying. 

Winners of these awards may qualify to enter the Academy Awards® for the concurrent season, provided the films otherwise comply with the Academy rules. Please see the Academy’s qualifying and eligibility rules: https://www.oscars.org/oscars/rules-eligibility

Can I resubmit a film I submitted previously?

As long as the film abides by the original production date restrictions, you may resubmit a film for consideration.

Can I submit multiple films?

Multiple films may be submitted. Each film requires a unique submission and submission fee.

How do I know if you received my film?

FilmFreeway will provide a submission confirmation.

Should I note if I am currently a student?

Since we do not currently have a student category, it is unnecessary to identify as a student.

Can I submit works in progress or “rough cuts”?

Works in progress and rough cuts are allowed. Films must be fully completed 4 weeks prior to the acceptance notification date.

How many films are accepted to the festival?

Typically, over 90 films are presented at the Provincetown International Film Festival.

When will I be notified if my film has been accepted?

Notifications will be sent on May 22, 2026

Will I get feedback about my film?

Given the volume of submissions, we are unable to provide individual feedback.

What screening formats do you accept for selected films?

For Shorts Programs: PIFF creates a master exhibition reel of every shorts program. If your film is selected for a shorts program, final cut must be provided in the form of digital upload (acceptable formats include Apple ProRes (HQ, or LT) 4:2:2 or h.264 HD 1920×1080 Bit rate at least 8mb/s).
