Neon Reef — Free Carnival Week Screening
Just in time for Provincetown’s Deep Sea Disco-themed Carnival Week, Neon Reef is a disco-fueled dive into the intersection of vibrant queer community and grassroots ocean activism. Amid the swaying palms and electric neon nightlife of Miami Beach, we meet our unlikely underwater heroes: married couple Patrick Breshike and David Grieser. They strap on scuba gear, schmooze politicians, and marshal a diverse coalition of queer coral scientists, women divers, and a Guinness World Record–breaking mermaid in an urgent battle to save a coral reef from poachers, climate change, and ignorance.
Sexy, sun-drenched, and sometimes surreal, Neon Reef is a roadmap for turning community into advocacy in America’s Riviera: Miami Beach.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Alex Mitow, subjects Patrick Breshike and David Grieser, and executive producer Lowell H. Bagley.
Admission is free, but please consider making a donation to Water’s Edge Cinema to support the year-round programming that makes screenings like this possible.
