Thirteen-year-old Sammy is struggling to deal with the death of her mother. After acting out, she’s sent to a summer course, where a chance meeting with surly magician Margot (Rhea Perlman), eventually sparks an unlikely friendship. As the initially reluctant Sammy becomes Margot’s pupil, they help one another toward healing. Director Kate Tsang’s sensitive and whimsical debut feature delivers a touching coming-of-age story which is at once wholly grounded and truly magical. “Quirky and a little punky and a lot of fun” – Vox
