maurice (1987)

After a remarkable career and dozens of films, Ivory, now 80, won his first Oscar last year for the script of Call Me by Your Name. This movie, a seamless adaptation of Forster’s novel of coming out, Edwardian style, is one of the few Ivory both wrote and directed, and is both painfully frustrating and wondrous.
Co-written and directed by James Ivory, based on E.M. Forster’s novel, with James Wilby, Hugh Grant, and Rupert Graves.
