the diary of a teenage girl (2015)

Teenage Minnie is an artist living in 1970s San Francisco who embarks on an affair with her mother’s boyfriend. What makes this movie, Heller’s directorial debut, so great is that Minnie “tells her own story in her own soaringly alive voice” (Manohla Dargis, The New York Times). Written and directed by Marielle Heller, based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s novel, with Bel Powley, Alexander Skarsgård, and Kristen Wiig.
